Costume: We know that there are children who are dressed up in their casual clothes especially when they are cycling at speeds like this. But then we can see that the girl who is with them is not wearing those casual clothes and that can show that she just does not fit in with the rest of them that she is the odd one out. The kids costumes can symbolise their personalities and challenges that they may face.Characters like Dustin and Lucas wear baseball caps,which can tell us that they love sports and love adventures to explore. This can help the audience know more about them and about their character.Stranger things is set in the 1980s,and it represents how the fashion was like the use of retro clothing,accesories like trainers,their colourful jackets that adds more fashion.
Lighting: The Low Key Lighting is being used to capture the shadow figures to make it more intense and darkness surrounding the frame. This creates a sense of danger as the characters are in darkness making it painful to look to see what's around them. The streetlights, car headlights, and the van's headlights become significant because They cause a dramatic effect and lighting patterns. These effects cause a sense of mystery and the importance of the characters is highlighted as they rush to get to safety. The contrast between light and shadow is accentuated during these chase scenes. Characters often appear as silhouettes against the bright headlights or the eerie glow of streetlights. This not only adds to the visual tension but also emphasizes the vulnerability of the characters. The Flickering Lights can also show us that something is wrong and that danger is approaching them so they must be careful. It also highlights suspense and curiosity. The flickering lights add an effect of chaos and instability to the scene.
Actors: The Actors' positioning is being used to convey the emergency chaos of the chase. Their kids are placed in an upfront position with the threat that the van is being used to scare the kids away so that they will fall for the threat and be captured. It shows the audience that the kids are struggling to escape. Their Facial Expressions, Body Language, and Reactions tell us about fear, desperation, and determination. This key information helps the audience connect with the characters.
Makeup and Hair- The makeup for the child actors is kept minimal and natural where it is set in the 1980s as then teenagers did not wear heavy makeup. When they were going through the Chase Scenes the makeup artists applied sweat, dirt, and effects to their faces. This helps them to make it realistic. Each character has a unique look and their hairstyles and makeup reflect their personalities of how they are. Eleven short buzz cuts and lack of makeup show her unique and mysterious characteristics. The Show Stranger Things pays attention to accurate makeup, and hairstyles to capture it to look as if it was the 1980s.In Intense moments of the chase Makeup used such as dark eye bags can infer to us that they are in a nerve-wracking moment and that they are stressed.
Props- The props Used such as bicycles are used as transportation in order for the kids to escape. Bikes represent Freedom, Peace, and Adventure. The Flashlights are used by the kids in the chase scenes for them to be able to see properly in the dark by showing them the path in which the light flashes directly. They represent Hope, Light, and Purity. Walkie Talkies are used to communicate with each other. The Backpacks and the bags contain essential items such as food and water that they will need with them. They represent that they are being prepared. Helmets in case anything happens that is able to make them feel safer which also represents safety from any danger. Compasses and Maps are used if they get lost or anything so that they will be able to know where they are going. Radio Equipment is used to direct and communicate safely, and accurately. They add a mystery to the whole experience.
Setting- The setting we know that they are in a fictional town named Hawkins, Indiana. The scene takes place in a small American town during the 1980s. The kids often roam around the streets together which means that they are best friends and that they know each other. It contracts with the supernatural the unknown. The scenes often occur at night time which means that it is doing this to make it an eerie moment. The forest setting adds an element of the unknown, with its dense foliage, eerie sounds, and shifting shadows. It symbolizes the adventure and the dangers while doing so. The setting also includes Hawkins Middle School, Hawkins Lab, and the quarry.
