December mock learner response
1. WWW- Noor ,your approach to TV CSP Questions was more focused e .g Q1.4 on how gender stereotypes are presented in the extract as relevant. Your Q2 TV 20-mark essay approached the focus on the question well.
EBI- Your OSP section was lacking clarity, depth and detail not enough focus o the qu3stion your response to the other less mark were disappointing make sure you revise media technology well
2. Non diegetic sound is the sound that the audience can hear for example music playing in background to show how intense the scene is when lyra and will leave.
3. Three points I could have made for 1.3 is I could have include why else is it important to have a birds eye view in the shot what purpose does it give? Zoom when Will and Lyra are sat at the table equally framed in a shot references closeness/relationship growing, Dolly tracking-follows Lyra movement as the leader, more dominant figure.
4.Q1.4 - Mise-en-scene could have included:
• Lyra’s costume subverts feminine stereotypes. It is blue, practical and does not
emphasise her figure or draw attention. It helps to establish Lyra as a practical,
confident character who is used to surviving on her own.
• The way Lyra first investigates and then eats the omelette also subverts feminine
stereotypes. Her interaction with props in the scene deliberately subvert ideas of
being ‘ladylike’ or feminine.
Will’s expression and body language is very timid which subverts masculine
stereotypes. In contrast, Lyra’s movements and expressions exude confidence.
5. Q2- I could have included:
- Although the idea of ‘teenage’ was not new, teenagers as a distinct category
developed rapidly in the post-war years and was well established by 1963. The idea
of the ‘generation gap’ as a social issue was still new and much-discussed.
- Susan is clearly in touch with popular culture. As a stereotypical teenager, she is
engrossed in pop music on her radio and her modern clothes differentiate her from
the teachers.
- Doctor Who has status and authority; he expects and commands deference.
However, the audience are positioned to view him as a villain for much of this
episode.
6. Section B
User generated content is material created by those whose main role is as users of media such as newspapers.
7. Question 4- I could include:
Marcus Rashford demonstrates this with his commercial partnerships with Burberry, Nike,
Coca-Cola and more. The fact he appeals to such mainstream brands is evidence of his
power in the digital age.
- Kim Kardashian's engagement rate is lower than Rashford at 0.33% but she has over 350
million followers so can still reach and engage with huge audiences.
- Some media theorists have suggested that in the digital age it is audiences that have the
power rather than companies, industries or traditional celebrities. Social media and
- YouTube levels the playing field and gives ordinary people the chance to create and share
content. This would suggest that celebrities and influencers do not have more power than
ever before and in fact the internet is a democratising force giving power to normal people.
8. Question 5
• an unregulated internet preserves the freedom of speech in a medium to which almost half the
world’s population has access
• it is difficult or impossible for national governments to regulate a global industry
• platform providers (eg Alphabet, Facebook) argue that they cannot be held fully responsible for
everything that users upload – they have been increasingly successful in devising automated
systems to detect and take down inappropriate or unlawful material.
9. 6/10 revision I did I felt I could have done it way before and went over past papers and revised media technology and go over the CSPS, practice writing paragraphs for example doing a 20 marker at home so that I can get the best grade possible.
10.CSPS like Dark Materials, Doctor Who
Revise media technology
Do exam practice/write paragraphs
