The Target audience for Doctor Who is children, families, adults as well as science fiction fans. No it has not changed since 1963.
2. What audience pleasures are offered by Doctor Who - An Unearthly Child? Apply Blumer and Katz's Uses and Gratifications theory to the episode. Make sure you provide specific examples from the episode to support your ideas.
Personal Identity: Susan a character who is a young teenager girl but is rebelling against the rules by talking back to her grandad and also we may feel as if she is odd, smart.Personal Relationships: The audience might wanna watch more to see how her relationships with the teacher ,doctor ,grandad has changed or has it not and what has happened next.Diversion (Escapism): By going to other world/eras you can get a good look at how it is different compared to Earth such as being in the science fiction world vs now.Surveillance (Information / Facts):The audience in 1963 will be interested in sci-fi as this is something completely different to them and would find it unusual that this is happening and that Susan is some sort of alien but in this normal school environment as a teenage girl who is smart but quite strange as she knows events that have not occurred yet but a long period of time ago.
